For once, Andrew Craft failed to come up with the goods at today’s Parkrun, finishing four minutes below his previous best time.
Andrew incurred a slight strained muscle in his hip during this week’s run, but the main reason for his below par performance was that he made the classic mistake of starting off too fast. This was in an admirable attempt to keep up with his team mate and coach, Paul Brackett, who unfortunately for Andrew, is on top form at the moment having once again set a personal best time by 4 seconds.
Parkrun is the perfect place to learn this type of lesson and with the right attitude, our young runners can gain much from experimenting with race tactics and strategy at their fortnightly appearances at Cutteslowe Park.
Today our man, Simon O’Keefe, trimmed 46 seconds off his personal best time, while Andrew’s younger brother, Tommy, continues to make steady progress knocking 70 seconds off his personal best in his third Parkrun. Tommy’s cousin, Emmy Craft, completed her 2nd Parkrun a whole 5 minutes faster than her last time out (while still not breaking into a sweat!) and Diana Lima finished her third Parkrun beating her previous best time by an impressive 227 seconds.
IWCA AC coaches David Troth and Stuart Craft were on volunteer stewarding duties this week.
