Oxford Mail Cross Country League final meeting, Harwell Science Park, 3rd March 2013
March 10, 2013
There were encouraging improvements in our results in the Under 15 – Under 17 category at today’s final Oxford Mail Cross Country meeting of the season, held in Harwell Science Park, Oxfordshire.
Andrew Craft managed to knock 8.97 minutes off his previous effort at this competition. Andrew came in at 21:07, passing three runners on the home straight. He looked strong and confident as he bounded across the finish line.
Robert Merry, who has worked harder in recent training session than anyone, showed great heart in a field of many older, bigger runners to make it home in 25:17.
At 13 and 14 years old, Robert and Andrew are at the bottom end of this category. Although Andrew is a big lad for his age, they have both been at a noticeable disadvantage this season when racing against the experienced, top flight 16 year old runners in this group. It will be interesting to see how both runners fare in six months’ time, when the new cross country season commences. The signs look good.
