It was great to see so many people turn up to support the Sport Relief events in Cuteslowe Park this morning.
Of the twelve IWCA Athletics Club runners, we took 1st, 3rd, 5th, 7th and 8th places in the Sport Relief 3 Mile run at Cuteslowe Park, while our younger runners also did well in the 1 Mile fun run.
Andrew Craft, who looked relaxed and confident, led the field in the 3 Mile race finishing in a comfortable 1st place in an impressive 19 minutes - his only challenger being a very strong, experienced women runner who came in over 100 metres after him. Andrew was followed (at some distance!) by his cousin and coach, Stuart Craft. Next came Peter Wright who is on the form of his life, followed by the battling Merry brothers, Shawn and Robert. Behind his seasoned team mates came young Ricky Gubinneli and his dad, Mauro. Last, but by no means least amongst the IWCA pack (though halfway up the over all field), came Graca Craft who gamely ran the course with a heavy cold.
11 year old Isobel Craft showed the value of her recent hard work at training to proudly whoop Prime Minister, David Cameron's arse In the Sport Relief Mile. Somewhere between Cameron, his camera men, a giant squid and huge penguin came mother and son team Lorraine and Francis McKenna. Lorraine who has just returned to running following a foot injury ran back to support Francis who was struggling mid way through the race - only to have to put in a last minute sprint when she spotted her boy out of the corner of her eye cheekily attempting to overtake her on the finish line.
Thank you Angela and Peter, Phil, Sam and family, Eammon Brackett, the Wolf Pack Motorcycle Club and all the others who turned up to support us today. It was a great morning out, despite the crazy 'four seasons in one day' weather.
Next week we will be challenging for the team prize in the OX5 Run at Blenheim Palace, Woodstock. Feel free to come along to give your support.
