IWCA AC runners Stuart Craft, Mark Franks and Peter Wright took to the hills of North West Oxfordshire this morning to take on the Hook Norton 7 mile Christmas Canter.
This was a fairly tough one, attracting 174 dedicated souls who were more than happy to trade the pre-Christmas hustle and bustle for the muddy fields and windswept country lanes of Hook Norton and Great Rollright.
This was the club's first appearance at this event and our boys gave a good account of themselves.
Stuart ran a strong race, making his way up the field in the closing stages of the race for a sprint finish, coming in 53rd place in 55:12.
Peter, who struggled through the latter part of the race with a painful stitch, came 57th in 56:04 before throwing up on the finish line for his efforts!
Mark, who is starting to regain his pace after returning from injury a month ago, finished in 103rd place in 1:03:17 - good going considering that he also ran the Harcourt Hill Parkrun yesterday.
Needless to say, the post run complimentary mulled wine and mince pies went down a treat. Shame we didn't have time to hang around for a pint or two of the famous Old Hooky - maybe next time!
Our next race is on January 4th when we take part in Round 3 of the Oxford Mail Cross Country League at Culham Park, near Abingdon.
