Though The IWCA AC is a long way off making an impression on the elite Oxfordshire Cross Country League, not least because we are the smallest, most recently established club in the competition, our runners are making steady progress as the stats from Sunday’s event show:
UNDER 11 GIRLS 49 Emilija Malova (time unrecorded)
UNDER 13 BOYS 35 Harry Arundel-Walker 11.45
124 Peter Wright (U20) 36.02
194 Stuart Craft (Vet) 38.51
In only her second appearance in the XC League and her first season of competitive running, Emilija Malova came 49th out of a field of 56. This is very good going considering the high standard of the competition. With her admirable commitment to training, there is every reason to believe that Emilija will do even better next time.
It was no surprise to see Harry Arundel-Walker knock 1:49 minutes off his previous time at Culham and we know that there is a lot more to be seen from the young man yet.
The Senior Men and Women's teams were down a runner each as Mark Franks was unable to attend Round 2 due to family commitments and Grace Craft was out injured, but both are committed to training hard for Round 3.
Peter Wright, who due to work commitments has not trained as hard as he would have liked to this past month, still managed to knock an impressive 6:07 minutes off his time on this course last year and Stuart Craft also made a notable improvement of 4.18 minutes on his Culham time from last year.
Round 3 will be on relative home turf starting and finishing at Oxford City Athletics Club on the Horspath Driftway with the course meandering through Shotover Country Park. Let's make it a good turnout for both runners and supporters!
